Making your worksheet…

Sheet code: –

Type the code printed on a sheet to get the same sheet back, with its answers.

How it works

  1. Tick the tables to divide by. 56 ÷ 8 comes from the table of 8.
  2. Choose exact division or with remainders, written like 47 ÷ 5 = 9 R 2.
  3. Print the sheet and its answer key, or solve it on screen.

Division facts

Without remainders, every division undoes a multiplication fact: 42 ÷ 6 = 7 because 6 × 7 = 42. Knowing the times tables well makes division facts quick.

Remainders

With remainders, the number left over is always smaller than the divisor, as in 47 ÷ 5 = 9 R 2. For bigger numbers, the long division worksheet sets out each step.

Questions and answers

How is the remainder written?

With an R: 47 ÷ 5 = 9 R 2. The answer key shows the quotient and the remainder.

Can I practice long division?

Yes, choose Division in the column worksheet. It draws long division with two- to four-digit numbers.

Why is there no division by 1 with remainders?

Dividing by 1 never leaves a remainder, so the 1 table is skipped when remainders are on.
